Founded in 1967, Mongoose University is a mid-sized comprehensive university located in Orchard Park, New York. With an enrollment of approximately 8,500 undergraduate and 2,200 graduate students, we offer the resources of a large university with the personalized attention of a smaller institution. Freshman Admissions
Application Requirements
Common Application or Mongoose University Direct Application — we accept both. There is no application fee for students who apply by the priority deadline.
- Completed application form with personal essay (250-650 words)
- Official high school transcript (minimum 2.5 GPA recommended)
- SAT or ACT scores (test-optional for Fall 2026 and Fall 2027 applicants)
- One letter of recommendation from a teacher or school counselor
- School report/counselor recommendation form
Optional but recommended: Resume or activity list, additional letters of recommendation, portfolio (for Fine Arts programs), interview

Application fee: $50 (waived for Early Action applicants, fee waiver available for students with demonstrated financial need). Apply fee waivers through the Common App or request directly from our admissions office.
What We Look For
Mongoose University takes a holistic approach to admissions. We consider academic achievement, course rigor, test scores (if submitted), extracurricular involvement, community service, leadership, and personal qualities. Our mid-50% admitted student profile: GPA 3.2-3.8, SAT 1100-1320, ACT 23-29.
Transfer Admissions
Requirements: Minimum 2.5 college GPA (2.75 for competitive programs like Nursing and Engineering), at least 24 transferable credits, official transcripts from all colleges attended, and a personal statement.
Deadlines: Fall semester: June 1 (priority: April 1) | Spring semester: November 1 (priority: October 1)
Credit transfer: We accept credits from regionally accredited institutions with a grade of C or better. Maximum 75 transfer credits accepted. Transfer credit evaluations are completed within 2 weeks of receiving all transcripts. Transfer students may be eligible for the Transfer Excellence Award ($8,000/year for 3.5+ GPA).
International Admissions
We welcome students from around the world. In addition to standard application materials, international applicants must submit:
- TOEFL (minimum 80 iBT), IELTS (minimum 6.5), or Duolingo English Test (minimum 110)
- Credential evaluation of international transcripts (WES or ECE recommended)
- Financial certification/bank statement demonstrating ability to cover first-year costs
- Copy of passport
Deadline: March 1 for Fall, October 1 for Spring. I-20 documents are issued within 3 weeks of deposit and financial documentation receipt. Visit our International Students page for visa guidance, orientation details, and dedicated support services.
Graduate Admissions
Graduate applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by each department. General requirements include:
- Completed graduate application ($60 fee)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (minimum 3.0 GPA)
- Official transcripts from all institutions attended
- Statement of purpose (500-1000 words)
- Two or three letters of recommendation (varies by program)
- Resume/CV
- GRE/GMAT scores (required for select programs; see individual Graduate Programs for details)
Priority Deadlines: Fall: February 15 | Spring: October 15 | Summer: March 15
Graduate assistantships (teaching and research) are available in most departments and include a tuition waiver plus a stipend of $12,000-$18,000/year. Applications for assistantships are due by February 1.
How to Check Your Application Status
After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email within 24-48 hours with your Mongoose University ID number and login credentials for the MyMongoose Applicant Portal. Through the portal you can:
- Track which documents have been received
- View missing items or holds on your application
- Check your admissions decision once released
- Accept your offer and submit your enrollment deposit online
- Access your Financial Aid award letter

Campus Visits & Tours
The best way to experience Mongoose University is in person. We offer:
- Daily Campus Tours: Monday-Friday at 10:00am and 2:00pm, Saturday at 10:00am (September-May)
- Open House Events: October 12, November 9, February 8, and April 5 — full-day programs with academic sessions, campus tours, financial aid workshops, and student panels
- Admitted Student Days: March 22 and April 12 — exclusive events for admitted students to meet faculty, explore housing, and register for orientation
- Virtual Tours: Available 24/7 on our website for students unable to visit in person

Enrollment Deposit & Next Steps
Once admitted, secure your spot at Mongoose University by submitting your $250 enrollment deposit (non-refundable after May 1) through the MyMongoose portal. After depositing:
- Complete the FAFSA (School Code: MONG12) if you haven’t already
- Submit your housing application and $300 housing deposit (all first-year students live on campus)
- Register for New Student Orientation (June sessions for fall admits)
- Submit final high school transcripts and immunization records
- Complete online placement assessments for math and writing
- Register for fall classes during orientation with your assigned academic advisor
