We know that the college journey is a family experience. From the moment of acceptance through graduation day, Mongoose University is committed to keeping you informed, involved, and connected.

Getting Started as a MU Family

Family Orientation

Important: Per federal law (FERPA), the university cannot share academic or conduct records with parents without student consent, even if parents are paying tuition. Exceptions exist for tax dependency and health/safety emergencies.

Paying for College

Payment methods:

  • Online via MyMongoose (credit/debit, ACH)

[Academic Support Resources]

Supporting Your Student Academically

Your student has access to comprehensive academic support, and knowing what’s available helps you guide conversations.

Academic Advising: Every student is assigned an advisor who helps with course selection, major exploration, and graduation planning. Encourage your student to meet with their advisor at least once per semester.

Tutoring Center (Library, 2nd Floor): Free drop-in and appointment tutoring in 40+ subjects.

Writing Center (Library, 3rd Floor): Support for papers, essays, and research projects.

Career Services (Student Center, Suite 310): Internship placement, resume help, and career counseling — 72% of students complete an internship by graduation.

Early Alert System: Faculty can flag students showing academic difficulty by week 4; the Student Success team reaches out directly.

If your student is struggling, encourage them to use office hours (all faculty are required to hold a minimum of 4 hours/week) and reach out to the Student Success Center at studentsuccess@mongooseuniversity.edu or (555) 478-3250.

Common first-year challenges: Time management, homesickness, balancing academics and social life. The Counseling Center (free, confidential) is available for adjustment support.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing

When to Worry (and What to Do)

It’s normal for students to experience homesickness, academic stress, and social adjustment, especially in the first semester.

Signs that may indicate your student needs additional support:

  • Significant changes in mood or behavior
  • Withdrawal from friends and activities
  • Declining academic performance
  • Changes in eating or sleeping patterns
  • Increased use of alcohol or substances
  • Expressing hopelessness or thoughts of self-harm

What you can do: Listen without judgment, encourage them to contact the Counseling Center, contact the Dean of Students office if concerned, file a Mongoose Cares report (anonymous) at care.mongooseuniversity.edu.

Emergency: Call 911 or MUPD at (555) 478-3911.
