Getting to Campus

By Car

From Buffalo/Niagara Falls (I-90): Take I-90 East to Exit 54 (Route 219 South). Follow Route 219 South for 6 miles. Take the Mongoose University exit. Campus entrance is 0.5 miles on the right. From Rochester (I-90): Take I-90 West to Exit 54, then follow directions above. From Erie, PA (I-90): Take I-90 West to Exit 54. From Toronto: Take QEW to I-190 South, then I-90 East to Exit 54.

Approximate drive times: Downtown Buffalo (15 min), Niagara Falls (35 min), Rochester (75 min), Erie PA (90 min), Toronto (2 hours), Syracuse (2.5 hours), Cleveland (3 hours), NYC (6 hours).

By Air & Public Transit

Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF): 20 minutes from campus. Airlines: Delta, United, American, Southwest, JetBlue, Spirit. Taxi/rideshare to campus approximately $30-40. Airport shuttle: MU provides free airport shuttle for new students during move-in weekend (advance registration required).

NFTA Metro Bus: Route 72 stops at the campus main entrance (every 30 minutes, Mon-Sat). NFTA Metro Rail: take the rail to University Station, then transfer to Route 72 bus. Discounted NFTA semester passes available for students ($50/semester at the Student Center info desk).

Amtrak: Buffalo-Depew station is 20 minutes from campus; taxi/rideshare recommended.

Parking on Campus

Visitor parking: Lot A (adjacent to Admissions, Whitman Hall) — free for prospective students and campus tour visitors. Check in at the Welcome Center. Visitor passes available at the Campus Safety office for other guests.

Student parking permits: First-year students restricted to Lot F (remote lot with shuttle service, $275/year). Upperclass students: Lots B-E ($425/year). Graduate/commuter: Lots C and D ($375/year). Faculty/staff: Lots A-C (payroll deduction). Accessible parking: designated spaces in all lots with valid placard. Parking permits purchased online at parking.mongooseuniversity.edu.

Motorcycle and bicycle parking available. Electric vehicle charging: 8 Level 2 stations in Lot B (free for permit holders). Parking enforcement: 7am-9pm weekdays; citations $35-$100. Game day parking: Lot G (Mongoose Meadow) opens 4 hours before home football games, $10/vehicle.

A complete guide to MU’s major buildings and their key offices:

Whitman Hall (Administration Building): Admissions (Room 105), Financial Aid (Room 150), Registrar (Room 210), Bursar/Student Accounts (Room 115), Dean of Students (Room 300), President’s Office (Room 400). Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am-5pm.

Founders Hall: First-year residence hall (420 beds), Campus Health Center (Ground Floor), Housing & Residence Life Office (Room 102).

Lakeside Commons: Sophomore residence hall (280 beds), suite-style living.

University Village: Upper-class and graduate apartments (350 beds).

Morrison Library: main library (350,000+ volumes), Tutoring Center (2nd Floor), Writing Center (3rd Floor), Graduate Study Space (4th Floor), Technology Lending Desk. Open Mon-Thu 7am-midnight, Fri 7am-9pm, Sat 9am-9pm, Sun 10am-midnight. Extended 24-hour access during finals.

Baxter Science Hall: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science labs and classrooms, Neuroscience Research Institute (3rd Floor).

Kessler Engineering Center: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Computer Engineering, Maker Lab ($12M facility, 1st Floor), Formula SAE garage.

Harmon School of Business: AACSB-accredited business programs, Bloomberg Terminal Lab (Room 205), student-managed investment fund office.

Walsh Education Building: College of Education, teacher preparation classrooms, Simulation Classroom.

Peterson Nursing Building: BSN and MSN programs, 20 high-fidelity simulation mannequins, clinical skills lab.

Mongoose Student Center: Student Government (Suite 200), Student Engagement (Suite 210), Counseling Center (Suite 215), Disability Services (Room 220), Career Services (Suite 310), Alumni Relations (Suite 400), Bookstore (1st Floor), Mail Center (Lower Level), The Greenery café, The Study Grind coffee shop. Building open 7am-11pm daily.

Mongoose Recreation Center: 85,000 sq ft, Olympic pool, gymnasium, indoor track, climbing wall, fitness center, Athletics Department (Suite 100). Open Mon-Fri 5:30am-11pm, Sat-Sun 7am-9pm.

Mongoose Stadium: 8,500-seat outdoor stadium, home of Mongoose football and track.

Mongoose Arena: 3,200-seat indoor arena, home of basketball and volleyball.

Fine Arts Center: theater (350 seats), recital hall (150 seats), art studios, Morrison Gallery.

Fireside Bistro: evening restaurant-style dining (separate building near Student Center).

Transportation & Getting Around

Campus Shuttle

3 routes running every 15 minutes: Green Route (academic buildings loop), Blue Route (residence halls to Student Center/Library), Red Route (remote parking Lot F to main campus). Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-midnight, Sat-Sun 9am-9pm. Track shuttles in real-time on the MU Mobile App. Shuttles are wheelchair accessible.

Special late-night shuttle on Friday/Saturday until 2am (Green Route only). SafeWalk escort service: 8pm-2am daily, call MUPD at (555) 478-3911 for a walking escort anywhere on campus.

Biking & Alternative Transport

Mongoose Bike Share: 50 bikes at 8 stations across campus. Free with valid MU ID (check out via MU Mobile App, 4-hour max per session). Bike racks at every building. Covered bike storage in Founders Hall and University Village. E-scooter sharing available through campus partner (download Spin app).

Campus is walkable: farthest buildings are a 12-minute walk apart. All sidewalks and paths ADA-accessible. Winter: paths are cleared by 7am on snow days; salt/sand applied to all walkways. Campus-to-town: downtown Orchard Park (shops, restaurants) is a 5-minute drive or 15-minute bike ride via the Mongoose Trail path.

Orchard Park: small-town charm, local restaurants, shops along Main Street (5 min). Highmark Stadium (home of the Buffalo Bills): 2 miles from campus. Downtown Buffalo: Canalside waterfront, Elmwood Village, Allentown arts district (15 min). Niagara Falls: one of the world’s great natural wonders (35 min).

Skiing: Holiday Valley and Kissing Bridge resorts (45-60 min). Letchworth State Park (“Grand Canyon of the East”): 60 min. Allegany State Park: hiking, camping (75 min). Toronto, Canada: world-class dining, culture, entertainment (2 hours, passport required).

Shopping: Walden Galleria Mall (15 min), Outlet Mall at Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls (35 min). Dining near campus: 12 local partner restaurants accept Mongoose Flex Dollars.

Visiting Campus

Planning a visit? We’d love to show you around.

Daily Campus Tours: Mon-Fri 10am and 2pm, Sat 10am (September through May). Tours depart from the Welcome Center in Whitman Hall (Admissions, Room 105). Tours last approximately 90 minutes and include academic buildings, residence halls, dining, recreation, and the library. Led by trained student ambassadors. No registration required for daily tours, but advance sign-up recommended during peak season (October-April) at admissions.mongooseuniversity.edu/visit.

Open House Events (half-day programs with presentations, tours, and faculty panels): October 12, November 9, February 8, April 5.

Admitted Student Days (for accepted students and families): March 22 and April 12.

Virtual Tour: 360-degree campus tour available 24/7 at tour.mongooseuniversity.edu.

Overnight visits: available for out-of-state prospective students (stay with a current student host). Request at admissions.mongooseuniversity.edu/overnight.

Accessibility: all tour routes are wheelchair accessible. ASL-interpreted tours available with 2 weeks advance notice. When you arrive: visitor parking is in Lot A (free). Check in at the Welcome Center. Grab a campus map and visitor lanyard.
